Details: Antique Biedermeier satin birch secretary featuring a gorgeous burled interior with a small cabinet, flanked by two arched mail slots, a small drawer on the top, surmounting a 16" wide open compartment below to fit a small laptop with five drawers flanking on each side. One of the drawers even has writing in pencil in it that appears to be some kind of crude ledger and makes for interesting conversation. Dovetail construction throughout. Two new keys have been made and turn smoothly. The light wood revealing natural grain and knotholes, typical of Biedermeier, gives this piece a gorgeous golden glow that brings it to life. Stylistically, the simplicity, sophistication and functionality of Biedermeier pieces is what makes them so popular even today. Purchased most recently from Bennett Galleries & Co. in Knoxville, TN for $6,250.00- where it was presumably restored to perfection!
