Details: 20th century oil on board painting of a verdant Italian countryside with a large church nestled into the rolling hills. Although the painting is signed "A. Lorein", the "A" most likely stands for "aprés", as it is a rendition of a painting originally done by the French artist Claude Lorrain (1600-1682), who was a French painter, draughtsman and etcher of the Baroque era. He spent most of his life in Italy, and is one of the earliest important artists, apart from his contemporaries in Dutch Golden Age of painting. The light in this piece is remarkable and fascinating to watch change throughout the course of a day. The artist is believed to be Belgian artist, Victor Lorein (1894-1954). Framed in a burnished gold frame with red undertones and a beaded detail on the exterior.
