Antique French Iron Hexagonal Fireback with Griffons

Details: Medium size, hexagonal shaped, antique French iron fireback depicting a pair of Griffons holding a laurel leaf framed oval encasing three Fleur de Lis. Griffons were mythical creatures believed to help find and guard treasure and were often depicted on Coats of Arms. Firebacks were intended to use in the backs of fireplaces to help radiate heat into large rooms, however, also make wonderful ornamental pieces for gardens and great backsplashes for kitchens!
