Details: This is a fantastic antique English Edwardian Sheraton Revival satinwood armchair, beautifully hand painted in the manner of Angelica Kauffman. Angelica Kauffman, RA (1741 - 1807) was a Swiss-born Austrian Neoclassical painter. The works of Angelica Kauffman have retained their reputation. By 1911, rooms decorated with her work were still to be seen in various quarters. At Hampton Court was a portrait of the duchess of Brunswick; in the National Portrait Gallery, a self-portrait. There were other pictures by her Paris, Dresden, the Hermitage at St Petersburg, the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, Kadriorg Palace and Tallinn (Estonia). This chair is hand painted with a floral and scroll design, and has a center medallion of a woman's portrait hanging from a bow. The back of the chair is a shield motif. The seat was recently reupholstered in a green velvet, and the wood was lightly refurbished to remove as many nicks as possible.
Dimensions: 37"h x 22"w x 22"d (seat=18"h x18"w); 14 lbs
Condition: In fair condition. The chair was recently reupholstered in green velvet, but because of its age there are multiple nicks, and one crack in the arm.
