Details: Collection of four framed prints from the 18th century monumental botanical work "Phytanthoza Iconographia" , produced by German born Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1737-1745). In addition to being an influential pharmacist and botanist, his background as an apothecary is evident in the composition and style of the prints, which are scientific (herbal/medicinal) as well as beautifully decorative and detailed. Mezzotint was used to achieve the subtle tonal variations of leaves and flower petals. In this series (pictured left to right), we have 1) V1020 "Urtica Urens Maxima" 2) N. 367 "China de China seu Kinkina" 3) N. 432 "Costus Arabicus-c1800" and 4) N.745 "Myrtus Communis Italica"- all with beautiful calligraphy descriptions.
Each print measures approximately 9 1/2 inches wide by 15 1/4 inches long on a thick, high quality chain-lined, hand-made paper, watermarked & light creamy in color. This collection is expertly framed in a burnt sienna coloured, textured frame with burnished gold accents and matted in cream with a sage green rice paper interior trim and covered in plexiglass. An exciting opportunity for the collector of rare prints!
