Details: The "Florence" Office Credenza, originally designed in 1961 when Florence Knoll revolutionized private office design by replacing the typical executive desk with a table desk because she needed a place for all the filing and storage that had traditionally lived in desk drawers. The solution, executed in typical Florence Knoll elegance, was the low credenza. “I did it because I needed the piece of furniture for a job and it wasn’t there, so I designed it.” Perfectly proportioned and immaculately detailed, the design embodies Florence Knoll’s adherence to the teachings of her favorite mentor, Mies van der Rohe.
This particular piece features a Calacatta Gold Borghini Marble top (62 lbs), which was first brought to us by Michelangelo, and is one of the most sought-after and famous pieces of marble in the world, making it a timeless work of art in itself and of precious rarity. Its distinctive look of a smooth white field, paired with warming veins of gold and coffee add class and sophistication to any application. The top has a place for a key that acts as a control lock system for all 5 of the drawers. The left side has 3 small drawers with removable dividers and the right has a top drawer with a divider that surmounts a file cabinet drawer that can accomodate 15" files vertically or horizontally. The piece sits on raised satin chrome legs.
Dimensions: 37.5"w x 18"d x 25.5"h (120 lbs)-Very heavy!
Condition: In beautiful condition, however, there is a superficial "bubble" on the back edge of the marble top with 2 barely noticeable scratches on the top and a couple of minor nicks on the wooden cabinet (see photos).
