Details: Idyllic scene of attractive young men and women playing lawn tennis while others lounge on the sidelines with their racquets and drinks titled "Weekend Tennis". This etching is based on a large oil on canvas painted in 1891 by the American expatriate artist Frederick Arthur Bridgman, who spent much of his career in France. The original painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy Annual Exhibition in London in 1892, and the etching was published the same year by M. Knoedler, a prominent art dealer in New York City. The painting was sold at a major auction of Bridgman's work in New York in 1899, and changed hands several times after that, most recently selling at Sotheby's in 1998 for over $330,000. The print was engraved and printed in Paris circa 189, probably soon after it was painted, by Albert Rosenthal who was a painter, etcher, and lithographer from New Hope, Pennsylvania. Framed in a vintage wood frame finished in distressed gold.
