Details: 19th century French arched iron fireback featuring a crown surmounting a band of three Fleur de Lis being held by two lions on either side and a Griffon in the lower center. Griffons were mythical creatures that were believed to help find and guard treasure or valued items and were often used on coat of arms as symbols of protection along with lions. Firebacks were intended to be used in the backs of fireplaces to help radiate heat in large rooms, however, are also wonderful to use as backsplashes behind stove top ranges and as ornamental decorations in the garden!
