Details: Rare 19th century green glass French demijohn encased in scored terra cotta or white clay. The sheared lip dates it back to 1830-1850, however, the mesh netting and clay overlay, may have been applied later. The removable bung or cork is in tact and remnants of the original rope are exposed at the neck. The wonderful history of demijohns and the unique, rustic appeal of this piece make it a wonderful conversation piece, as well as an art form in a farmhouse, wine country or coastal setting!
