Details: Oil on board painting depicting several sea vessels in a tumultuous sea that we like to call "Rescue at Sea". Although the piece is unsigned, it is presumably from the mid 19th century and is similar in style and execution to works by artists Xanthus Smith (1839-1929), Edward Moran (1829-1901) and Louis Johan Hendrik Meijer (1809-1866). The attention to detail on the sea crafts and the dramatic movement of the waves and the clouds is exceptional. Framed in a matte gold antique frame with three dimensional edelweiss type flowers on the corners. A great piece for a lover of seascapes and adventures on the high sea!
Dimensions: 20.5"w x 2.5"d x 17.5"h Art= 13.25"w x 10.25"h
Condition: The art itself is in wonderful condition. Some of the flowers on the frame are chipped (see detailed photos). The board is secured into the back of the frame with tiny bits of cork and nails, which we find to be a charming detail. The artwork can be shipped without the frame-please inquire.
