Small Antique French Iron Castle Crest Fireback
Details: Early 19th century French iron fireback featuring a coat of arms with three Fleur de Lis and three medallions surmounted by three castle towers that resemble the shape of a crown. The family crest is flanked by two oak branches, symbolizing strength and wisdom. Firebacks were used to place in the backs of fireplaces to radiate heat in large rooms, however, are wonderful to use as backsplashes behind stove top ranges or in gardens- this particular piece has brackets that may indicate it was designed to be hung and is thin and "light" enough to be hung on a wall if desired.
Dimensions: 18.75"w x .75"d (including brackets) x 13.25"h (25 lbs)
Condition: In great condition with a lovely patina! There are some superficial cracks on the surface, however, the piece is indestructible and designed to last for centuries more to come!
