"Tempo da Sementeria" Original Oil Painting by Xavier Pousa (1931-2000)

$ 998.00

Details: Original oil on canvas by Xavier Pousa (1931-2000), who was a Spanish Postwar artist. The piece is titled "Tempo da Sementeria", which translates into English as "Seeding Time". The piece depicts a cheerful landscape of a vibrant field of flowers in the foreground with low mountains and farmhouses in the background. The lighting, which suggests either dusk or dawn, from the purple and pink hue of the hills and sky, in addition to the texture of the flowers created by the artist's brush strokes, make this an enticing painting. Framed in a burnished gold frame with white and brown linen interior matting and "Made in Italy" carved on the back of the frame. Signed "Xavier Pousa" on the lower right of the canvas, as well as on the back along with the title of the painting and the date of 1980.

Dimensions: Frame= 34.5"w x 2.25"d x 27"h Artwork= 28.5"w x 21"h (7 lbs)

A Bit About the Artist:

Orphaned at a very young age, Xavier Pousa was brought up by his mother and his grandfather, Serafín Carrera, who, when the boy was 13, urged him to show his drawings to the painter Antonio Fernández. The latter would take him on as a pupil and inherit from him his love of nature and the rigour of his work. In 1948 he travelled to Madrid for the first time, where he discovered the immense pictorial treasure of the Prado Museum, but also that of the Museum of Modern Art, the Sorolla House and the paintings of El Greco in Toledo.

Condition: In very good condition, however, the canvas could be restretched, as there are slight ripples on the top where it has loosened over time (see detailed photos). The frame is intentionally distressed, hence some blemishes.
